Making a Podcast is fun and easy!
Making a GREAT Podcast, takes work
Get some software for
your computer so you can record
If you
have a MAC:
Garage band is a good platform to record on. If you do not have Garage Band, consider down loading Audacity for the MAC. I don't suggest Pro tools for simple program recording. Pro tools is music production software and tools, its over kill for this type of recording and has a larger learning curve and is much more complicated..
If you
have a PC
Consider down loading Audacity for the PC,
There are also Audacity down loads for Linux and Unix! Audacity is an open source software, your should not pay for it.
Get a microphone
You can get a USB microphone to plug right into you computer and be ready to go. You don't have to spend a fortune on a mic. A nice mic stand is helpful too, either a tripod style floor mic stand or a desk top. Look for some inexpensive studio head phones. You can not use a head set for this. You MUST have a decent recording microphone and headphones are highly recommended. If you hear yourself breathing on your microphone you may want a windscreen of some kind or an old sock. I like the simple foam type, they are cheap.
You might want to buy a USB mixing board. this will allow you to run several regular microphones, add a turntable or other equipment. check out broadcast supply west below for the best deals and microphones and other toys and goodies. .
I have an emu 0404 internal sound card in an ordinary HP pavilion. This sound card has a hardwired interface connection that allows me to have audio go back and forth from the mixing board and the computer. I can then add microphones, a turn table, tapes decks and audio players to my Sony 12 track mixing board. I found an excellent deal on audio-technica st90 mark 11 mics and mic stands at broadcast supply west.
I use adobe
audition to do multitrack production and produce pod
casts. I like it because it allows me to in depth
destructive editing, I can get in very close, take out a
lip smack, splice words together etc. I also have some
music ability and can provide you with show elements,
licensed music beds and elements, jingles, bumpers, etc.
I use mixcraft for that.
Can I go live?
Yes! However, It is labor
intensive with little rewards, Terrestrial radio is a
good way to do this. This is often a local AM radio
station. They have everything you will need to go
live. Radio stations sell time in blocks. You may then
sell advertising to local business's to monetize your
program. You may also use local radio with a
prerecorded program, Wed recommend you have a local
advertiser before you buy time on a local radio
station regardless of how you produce your program.
We suggest you record your show for the first four programs. Most people prefer to pre-record once they have done it because of the flexibility it offers the hosts and the guests, ability to fix errors, advanced incorporation of show elements, less stress, no time restrictions and advanced fine tuning from a professional show producer.
We have just found a great company to handle your show calls. You do not need a live show to use this either! We will supply you with a local or 800 number you may broadcast, invite your listeners to leave messages. You may then return their calls and record your conversion on your home computer and incorporate it into your show. Recording calls from Skype is also an excellent way to have professional guests.

OK, so now you
have your microphone and you have your
recording software and you set up skype and
everything seems to be working
Now What?
If you have gotten this far you know what you are gonna talk about on your show. You should format an idea of what will make your show sound great, get some imaging and mess around with what will sound best. Be inventive, try different things, break the mold! Play it for your friends and let them abuse you. then post and publish it.
What about playing music?
If you want to make music the focus of your show you can contact ASCAP for more information on royalties and fees. Christian Copyright Solutions Is a service that negotiates for religious programs. Live365.com offers hosting programs that include royalty payments.

You need a web site
You MUST have a website server to place your podcast on Itunes. Itunes does not keep any files on its server, it just lists them. We can set you up with an RSS feed so people can subscribe to your podcast thru iTunes or any other feed receiving software. I do not like podcast publishing services. Do not spend any money on them.
We have server space for your podcast
OK, so maybe now you have produced a show, placed it on you web site, posted it to iTunes, it's running on the wzlradio internet radio station.
