FAQ
Q. What exactly is a podcast?
A multimedia digital file made available on the Internet for downloading to a portable media player, computer, etc
Q. Why would I want to prerecord my program?
it's VERY time intensive to do a show live and the rewards are negligible, so much so that we will only do it as a promotional tool for established shows. Even if you do it live the first time it's still prerecorded for downloads You might as well make your show as perfect as possible before anyone hears it. My clients don't have to worry about messing up, talking too long, getting off topic or having to mix their show elements in, I do that. They don't have to be at anyplace at anytime to do a show.Their guests can call in when they are available to be on the show, not on schedule or under pressure.
Q. What kind of topics are people interested in?
Considering that you now have access to the entire world, (7 billion people) you can reach anybody who has the same interests as you. And there are many people who are interested in hearing about what other people are doing. You probably have more solid experiences than many reality TV shows. Hobbys, cooking, travel, lifestyle, anything can make a great show.
Q. Can I
really record a quality project at home?
Yes! You will need a microphone and/or portable
recorder, some soft ware, commitment and enthusiasm, Check
out the bsw banner at the bottom of the page for equipment.
A quality producer will help to get all the elements in
order to make you sound great. Q. Don't I need a great voice?
Absolutely not, People like to hear someone they can relate to. As long as you can spek well enough that people can understand you.
Q. Don't you have to have Pro tools?
Pro tools is perfect and awesome for recording and mixing music. Pro tools isn't very good for editing spoken word. Garage band is kinda limited in the same way. Try audacity which is an open source software if you get into editing.
We use Adobe Audition for editing which is the broadcasting standard. Mix craft for the PC as an alternative solution for garage band for making awesome music beds.
Q. I've heard about this thing where I can record pod casts with my telephone...
Consider this, making a show is as simple as recording it, fine tuning it and publishing it. A one time expense of a microphone is well worth it. You can create a podcast without a producer and be working directly with your audience for little or no monthly cost. You probably will want some help or guidance and we have that. We'd like to see you get lots and lots of downloads and exposure
Q. How do I get my material to you?
We will give you a FTP log in and talk you thru set up and transfers, it's very very simple. Some people choose to use Drop Box or You Send it, these are all good as well.
Q. What can I do to make my show sound better
Give yourself plenty of time. Be in shape to work! Have a clean mouth, be hydrated.. Sit up straight when voicing and tighten up your mid section.Try not to talk from your throat, rather bring the air up from your chest and diaphragm.
Breath! Don't rush!!!
Ask people what they like or don't like about your show,
listen to them, decided what is valid. Do research, do
your best.
Q. What if I mess up while recording?
Just start over at a good place, I'll fix it. Stop and rest while voicing, clear your throat, cough, etc. Do you know that often a breath is emphasis? Place a comma in your script or notes at the normal place to breath. Don't try and use perfect English with lotsa extra words you would never say, ya don talk that way. k?
Try not to "POP!" your
P's.
We can teach you how to edit as a consultation.
Q. Can I make money from doing a show?
Yes! it may take some patience to develop a show that you can sell to sponsors or advertisers. Google has ads you can put on your website and there are affiliate programs. If you want can buy time on terrestrial radio stations. It can work if you have a sponsor or advertisers. It also takes time as you watch the number of downloads increase each month.
Q. Do I need a website? face book? Itunes?
ABSOLUTELY! The more you work on your exposure the better. We can help with simple web design, We are also participating in an affiliate program for Web.com and recommend them. itunes isn't the only way people can get your program, it's just the best known and most popular. Itunes doesnt "host" any files we send them the information about your show and they make it available thru their websites. Social media is very important for marketing your show, The better your website is the more downloads you will get. Creating a show blog will create much more interest and traffic.
